Jake Halcumb
Jake’s journey in martial arts began with his love for wrestling, where he honed his skills in multiple styles and even coached a youth team during his young adult years. This foundation on the mats seamlessly transitioned into his exploration of Jiu-Jitsu in 2012. Under the guidance of Professor Chris Dealy, the esteemed black belt from The Base Vancouver, Jake earned his own Jiu-Jitsu black belt, a testament to his commitment and dedication to the art. In addition to his Jiu-Jitsu expertise, Jake holds the distinguished title of being a Level 2 Suples certified instructor. This certification highlights his proficiency in the Suples Bulgarian Bag training system, enhancing his ability to provide comprehensive and effective training for his students. Furthermore, he is also a certified Yoga for BJJ instructor, emphasizing the importance of flexibility, balance, and mindfulness in the practice of Jiu-Jitsu.
As an avid competitor, Jake actively participates in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, and continuously challenges himself in refining his skills. This competitive mindset fuels his passion for teaching, as he strives to instill the same drive and determination in his students. Whether you are a novice white belt or a seasoned practitioner, Jake’s leadership and approachability create a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone who steps onto the mats. Beyond the world of martial arts, Jake cherishes his time spent with family. When he’s not training, coaching, or competing, you’ll likely find him immersed in nature, hunting and fishing alongside his loved ones. His dedication to martial arts and his ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere make Jake Halcumb an exceptional head instructor at The Base Woodland, inspiring students to reach their full potential both on and off the mats.
